What is the shape of the light source for the rendering? It looks like the subject is in the middle of a ring of lights as the cast shadows all cast towards the center. The reason I ask is the center studs have no cast shadow which makes them harder to see. Perhaps a single light source behind and to one side of the observer would make for better shadows?
yeah I'm not very good with programming light sources on POV ray. The one I use for my standing mosaics just looks way too dark on the flat ones for some reason (even though my flat ones are also technically perpendicular to the ground at the same angle so I don't understand that) I believe for this one I did use a solitary light source to answer your question.
