I'm quite proud of how this one came out. I eliminated all continuous straight lines from this mosaic. This is also the first mosaic in which I have used those 3-peg corner pieces. For those of you wondering, I use a program called breicksaic to give me a general idea of how the finished project will come out. then I begin systematicly replacing the pegs the program generated with various sized bricks. To me this makes it more realistic, because messing around with hundreds of 1x1 bricks would be hard to assemble in reality :D

I started out trying to use the full steam logo for it but then I realised I should just keep it simple (stupid) haha.

Hey, it's all good. It's quite a bold endeavor, making everything even and symmetrical. I don't have that kind of patience :XD:

takes a lot of time but it's CGed like all my mosaics are, so that helps the symmetry thing.

I have been trying to think of a way to use different brinks with my "pixelate" method of making Lego images and haven't come up with any. It really does make a huge difference.

yeah I'm not even sure how it could be automated. Bricksaic has an option to use different sized bricks, but it only uses long bricks on one axis. So even when I use that feature I still go through and replace most if not all the bricks. The only time I just left it alone were my Mozilla mosaics, because of their size and complexity. But let me know if you figure out a way to automate it, that would save me lots of time :D

It would have to be a whole different process. But if you look at how the GIF format works internally, it could be based on the same thing. GIF is a series of regions that match a colormap entry. So images that have big zones of a single color don't take up a lot of space. If I could reference the GIF data... maybe I could use each region as a brick.

One of these days...

yeah, we did an exercise in my web design class where the teacher had us make two identical sets of stripes but rotate one 90 degrees and compare the file sizes.

cool! I don't think GIF existed back when I was in school.

it was created in like '94 I believe. The webdesign class I took was in '00 or '01 I can't remember which. I thought you and I were about the same age though?

No... I'm about twice your age. I graduated college in 86, so yeah... before GIF.

Steam = Awesome
Legos = Awesome
